Idris Elba has plans for Sherbro Island
Idris Elba, known for his Hollywood roles, is embarking on a visionary project to transform Sherbro Island, Sierra Leone, into a futuristic, eco-friendly "smart city." Teaming up with childhood friend Siaka Stevens, they've received the Sierra Leonean government's backing to introduce renewable energy and develop the island with an eco-conscious blueprint. Despite the island's current lack of mains electricity and its simple living conditions, the plan includes creating Sierra Leone's first wind farm and turning Sherbro into an energy hub, promising an economic boost for the country. This ambitious project, however, faces challenges like feasibility and funding, aiming for long-term transformation while preserving the island's natural beauty and supporting its 30,000 inhabitants. Elba's dream represents a significant, albeit complex, step towards a sustainable future for Sierra Leone.
You may remember, singer Akon was also set to build a city in Senegal announced five years ago. The most recent article I found from December explains there’s not much more than tumbleweeds, a Welcome Center, and a youth center.
