By now, you have seen the full video, seen clips or heard Amada Seals had an interview with former football player Shannon Sharpe, and maybe the responses from her and others. Amanda doesn’t appear to be happy about the editing or her portrayal related to key topics discussed, like her self-diagnosis of Autism. Those who watched the interview were under the impression she was diagnosed within a few weeks of her announcement, but she later followed up clarifying she is not going to pay “$10,000 “ to get a diagnosis, so she self-diagnosed.
I learned that many adults, actually do self-diagnose, because they do not see the need for an official one. Especially since they are past the age where they may receive educational accommodations. But does it cost that much for a diagnosis? It seems rather exorbitant, no?! I did some research in my city of Houston, and found prices range $300 to $2400 without insurance, and if you have insurance, it could be a co-pay depending on benefits. I know in LA or NYC, it could be much more, but $10,000?! Do you think we should tell her it’s not that expensive. or let her be?
One of my favorite influencers is King of Reads, and he has a great review/ think piece on her interview and her in general that is well done.
Although many have strong opinions of Amada, I like that she ‘stands on business’ and supports her community. I wish her well.

Youthforia, a makeup brand, is currently under fire for their darkest makeup foundation shade, which many Black beauty influencers have criticized for resembling the racist blackface makeup used in minstrel shows. I've posted a video discussing this issue, questioning whether we should continue supporting makeup brands that fail to include our skin tones. I also found articles, which I have shared below, that share Black owned beauty brands and the best foundations for darker tones. Should we be worried about Youthforia when there are many great options like Fenty??
